Dr. Frank A. Bucci, Jr. is an internationally recognized expert in cataract and refractive surgery. A pioneer in the field, he performed the first RK, AK, PRK, and LASIK procedures in Wyoming Valley and has completed more than 9,000 refractive surgeries and 28,000 other microsurgical eye procedures.
In 1998, Dr. Bucci founded Bucci Cataract & Laser Vision Institute, where he remains the sole surgeon. He also established the Angelina Theresa Bucci Eye Surgery Center in 2000, a state-of-the-art facility licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Health, Medicare certified, and accredited by the AAAHC. His Wilkes-Barre main office features advanced LASIK technology, including Wavescan and Intralase “bladeless” CustomVue laser vision systems.
Dr. Bucci is a leading researcher and educator, with over 75 peer-reviewed publications and hundreds of invited presentations at major ophthalmic meetings worldwide. In 2005, he delivered a landmark presentation demonstrating that combining different multifocal lens implants could provide the highest levels of spectacle independence and patient satisfaction. He was the first surgeon in North America and Europe to present these findings and continues to share his results at global conferences.
As of March 2009, Dr. Bucci was the first U.S. surgeon to implant the FDA-approved Tecnis Multifocal lens, and he remains the #1 multifocal surgeon in Pennsylvania and among the Top 10 in the United States. His groundbreaking work allows many patients to avoid bifocals and even prevent future cataract surgery.
